The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is a nonprofit, noncommercial project of the University of Texas at Austin that was created in 2002 to help journalists with educational programs. We take privacy issues seriously and understand that all personal information that we may collect in our programs belongs to the individuals we serve, who can access and delete it at any time.
The Knight Center collects a limited amount of personal information from individuals who have signed up for its activities, such as conferences, online courses, and our email newsletters. We use this information, which is kept on secure servers, to contact individuals so that we can inform them about new activities that may interest them and/or to deliver the newsletters they subscribed to.
We understand the personal information belongs to each individual, and he or she is always invited to unsubscribe from our mailing lists. When someone unsubscribes, his/her information is automatically and immediately deleted from our lists.
The personal information we collect may include, but is not limited to, names, email addresses, and the country and city an individual lives in. This information is collected when you sign up for a course, a conference or a newsletter. It is information you provide to us in order to participate in our activities, access our courses, and receive information that you have requested from us and/or that we believe to be of relevance to you.
Please note that once you have enrolled in a course, we may collect student-generated information from you, such as responses to quizzes and comments that you post in our discussion forums. Keep in mind that these comments are available to all other students in the course. For this reason, we advise you to be mindful when deciding whether to post any personal information in these forums. Inaccurate information may affect the information you receive from us and/or our ability to contact you. For example, your email address should be up-to-date because that is one of the primary ways that we communicate with you.
We do not collect financial information from you, other than information you submit when making purchases on the University of Texas at Austin secure website that we use for payments. We do not have access to that information and we do not save the payment information. All of the information we collect is stored on secure servers. We use third-party services to store our data, including Classroom Revolution, Active Campaign, and Google Analytics, but we do not sell or share your personal or financial information with third parties.
We will always keep the most up-to-date Privacy Policy on our website and will notify you if substantial changes are made. We encourage you to visit this page periodically to ensure that you are familiar with the latest version of our Privacy Policy. In sum, we respect your privacy. You own all personal information that you give to us, and you can have access to it and delete it at any time. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at knightcenter@austin.utexas.edu.
