Due to a great demand for the first webinar scheduled to Friday, Dec. 9, another webinar has been organized by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, the Mexican journalists network Red de Periodistas de a Pie, and the International Center for Journalists on “Strategies to Reduce Risks When Covering Organized Crime and Violence.” The second webinar will be offered at 9:00 a.m. (Mexico City/Austin time) on Friday, Dec. 16th.
This webinar, which is in Spanish, focuses on specific strategies of how to stay safe when covering organized crime and violence in Mexico.
This seminar will be co-taught by Elia Baltazar of the Periodistas de a Pie; María Idalia Gómez of the Rapid Response Unit of the Inter American Press Association; Juan Carlos Romero Puga of Article 19; and Jorge Luis Sierra of the International Center for Journalists.
Participants will learn security strategies to help them stay safe while reporting on organized crime and violence in high-risk areas. The webinar will address the following topics: threats to freedom of expression,
reduction of risk when covering a community, security protocols, and digital security tools.
The two-hour webinar is free and participants will receive a certificate of completion from the Knight Center. The course information sheet is available here.
